The Smoky Mountain Springfest 2013 happens from March 12 until June 2, and this is definitely one of the best times of year to explore the wonders of the mountainous areas in and around Gatlinburg, Tennessee. You will have so many choices of activities including those that involve nature, culture or sport. One of the true treasures of Gatlinburg is The Little Pigeon River that runs directly through the city. In fact, many fishermen go there so that they can use their fly-rods as they seek peace and relaxation on the banks and rocks of the river, which is especially charming in the spring. Others simply enjoy the atmostphere.
For those who are not inclined to fishing, many other attractions are available along the Riverwalk. A visitor can stay at one of the local hotels, shop, dine and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Gatlinburg has several museums and a sensational art scene. Many like to visit the Ripley’s Believe It or Not attraction, and others like to peruse the city’s three public parks which are Mynatt Park, Herbert Holt Park and Mills Park. Some tourists like to pack a lunch and enjoy casual strolls throughout the parks before and after lunch. However, others are serious hikers who devour the notoriously-excellent trails with gusto and enthusiasm.
One of the nicest features of the Smoky Mountain Spring Fest is the availability of transportation. Tourists may purchase All-Day Trolley Passes for $2. Family members can hop on the trolley, which uses ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel, and they can explore the famous Arts and Crafts Loop. Visitors can also ride to other centers of fun in the city.
A special treat for those whose vacation corresponds to Easter is Gatlinburg’s Annual Easter Sunrise Service when residents and guests gather at Ober-Gatlinburg for a mountain-top worship service. Free tram service is included, and a breakfast feast is available at the Ober-Gatlinburg Restaurant.
