1. It’s an Actual Barn.

The Apple Barn and Cider Mill“The Apple Barn” isn’t just the name — this popular place is an actual barn! It was built back in 1910 and was part of the farm that two families, the Hicks and Kilpatrick families, bought in 1972. In 1980, the families started renovating the old cattle barn one board at a time. In 1981, it became known as The Apple Barn.

2. You Can Watch Cider Be Made in the Fall.

Soon after The Apple Barn came about, a Cider Room was added. Visitors can watch the apples being pressed into cider during the fall. Not only can you watch, but you can taste some too! A Cider Bar was added to give visitors the opportunity to sample the cider, hot or cold.

3. It is Home to Two Restaurants.

Here, guests can enjoy homemade apple fritters, delicious Applewood Julep and Southern favorites like fried chicken, meatloaf and pot roast. After the growing popularity of the Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant, a second restaurant was built in 1995. Applewood Farmhouse Grill serves up the same Southern comfort foods, along with some healthy options too. You can’t go wrong with dining at either of the restaurants!

4. You Can Buy Some of Your Favorite Foods to Take Back Home.

If you loved the meals you had at the two restaurants, stop by the General Store and get some to take back home with you! The General Store is a 3-level store that sells their famous apple butter, apple jelly, apple fritter mix and more. If you couldn’t get enough of the apple fritters at the restaurant, buy the mix and bring a taste of the Smokies back home with you! You can also browse through a variety of mountain crafts, home decor and collectables.

5. It’s Christmas All Year Long.

This 6,000-square-foot store will get you in the Christmas spirit any time of year. As soon as you walk through the doors, you’ll be greeted with twinkling lights, Christmas trees, holiday decorations and the sweet smell of candles. The candle department has hand mixed and poured candles that are made right in the store! You’ll love the Apple Barn Collection, which has 6 apple-scented varieties. As you walk through, enjoy the sounds of gospel, Christmas and country music echoing throughout the store.

We bet you’ve heard of the Apple Barn Winery before, but did you know it serves wine made from apples? Instead of grapes, the winery uses locally grown apples to handcraft the wine on-site. You can sample the local wines for free, and even try wine slushies! The Apple Barn Winery is also part of the Rocky Top Wine Trail, which includes 5 different wineries in the Pigeon Forge area.
