7 Things to Do in Gatlinburg in April

With springtime in Gatlinburg well underway, April is the perfect time to get outside, soak up some sun and enjoy the Smoky Mountain air. Lucky for you, there are plenty of things to do in Gatlinburg in April – check out our list below: 

 

Smoky Mountain Trout Tournament

Cast your line and hope for the big one at this year’s Smoky Mountain Trout Tournament. The 16th annual tournament is open to adults, children, locals and tourists and is the largest trout tournament in the Smokies. More than 10,000 trout will be stocked throughout the fishing sites, so nibbles should be easy to find. Registration is $25 per day or $40 for both days. All Gatlinburg and state fishing regulations will be observed.

Easter Sunrise at Ober

One of the most popular things to do in Gatlinburg in April is experience the Easter Sunrise at Ober Gatlinburg. Join in the 18th annual Easter sunrise service, led by local pastors of the Gatlinburg Ministerial Association. The offering collection will be used to assist the county’s needy. Tram rides to the summit will be offered free to attendants beginning at 5:45 a.m., continuing every 15 minutes until the service begins. Free parking will be available. A breakfast buffet will be available from 7:15-10:30 a.m. at the Ober Gatlinburg Restaurant.

Celebrate Appalachian culture, arts and heritage as well as the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains during the 2nd annual Legacy Weekend at Arrowmont. Programming will include workshops, guest speakers, musical performances, social gatherings, gallery openings and off-campus explorations.

Wine, Dine and Art Crawl

Explore galleries and meet artists from the Great Smoky Arts and Crafts Community while enjoying local wines from more than 10 Tennessee wineries and hors d’oeuvres from area restaurants at the Wine, Dine and Art Crawl. Talks on wine, food pairings and more will be presented. Attendees must be 21 years of age or older. Tickets are $45.

Gatlinburg Smoky Mountain Winefest

For $20, sample wines from all corners of Tennessee at the Gatlinburg Smoky Mountain Winefest. Bottles will be available for purchase at the close of the evening. Talks on wine-making, cigar appreciation and more will be presented. Attendees must be 21 years of age or older.

Honor our men and women in uniform by marching or running through the Smoky Mountains for the Mountain Man Memorial March. Participants choosing to march can choose the full 26.2-mile or 13.1-mile route. Runners have the option of running the 26.2-mile marathon, 13.1-mile half marathon or 10-kilometer run. The event began as a way to honor 1LT Frank B. Walkup, a University of Tennessee ‘05 graduate and ROTC alumnus who was killed in action in Iraq in 2007. The event continues today in commemoration of those lost in the armed forces.

  • Mon., April 20 – Gatlinburg Goes Green Breakfast Seminar at Hilton Garden InnTBAEarth Day in Gatlinburg
  • Tues., April 21 – Spur Clean Up with Keep Sevier Beautiful – Earth Week is partnering with Keep Sevier Beautiful and Great Smoky Mountains National Park to pick up litter along a stretch of National Park between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, known as the Spur.  Businesses and Organizations are encouraged to put together teams to compete to see who can collect the most trash. More info to come.
  • Wed., April 22 – Spring Cleaning Super Recycling TBA
  • Thurs., April 23 – Earth Day Festival – Bring the entire family to Mynatt Park on Airport Road in Gatlinburg from 3-7 p.m. to learn about green practices while enjoying music, free crafts, activities, face painting and more!
  • Fri., April 24 – Earth Day 5K Run/Walk – Celebrate Earth Week by running or walking in the 3rd annual Earth Day 5K Run/Walk through downtown Gatlinburg. Registration begins at 8 p.m. at the Nantahala Outdoor Center, 1138 Parkway. Race starts at 10p.m.
