Dolly Parton Named MusiCares Person of the Year for 2019
Our Smoky Mountain hometown hero is the first country-music artist to be named the MusiCares Person of the Year! On February 8, Dolly Parton will be honored at the 2019 MusiCares Person of the Year tribute. The event will include performances from popular artists, as well as Parton herself. We’ve got all the details on the MusiCares honor and the tribute itself:
Dolly Parton MusiCares Person of the Year Honor
Each year, MusiCares hosts a Person of the Year gala that honors a recording artist who has made important contributions to the world of music, as well as demonstrated extraordinary humanitarian and philanthropic efforts. There is no better fit for this honor than Dolly Parton! With more than 100 million records, 8 Grammy wins and 47 nominations, she is one of the most influential artists of all time. Parton also launched the Imagination Library, which is the premier early childhood book gifting program, and Leadership Tennessee presented her with the first ever Dolly Parton Excellence in Leadership Award for her work in improving lives across Tennessee.
2019 MusiCares Person of the Year Gala
This year’s Person of the Year gala is held on February 8. The event will include an incredible performance lineup. Grammy winners Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, and Chris Stapleton are set to perform, as well as past Grammy nominees Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry. The event will also feature performances by P!nk, Willie Nelson, Lauren Daigle, and more. Parton will close out the evening’s performances. Proceeds from the event will benefit the MusiCares Foundation. The MusiCares event will take place just 2 days before the 61st annual Grammy Awards.
The MusiCares Foundation was established in 1989 to provide a safety net for music people in times of need. This includes resources and services that cover a wide range of financial, medical, and personal emergencies. The Person of the Year gala has played a significant role in the foundation’s efforts and takes place each year during Grammy Week. The gala has honored iconic artists over the years, and Dolly Parton is no exception. Past honorees include Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Lionel Richie, and Bob Dylan.
