Ober Gatlinburg is getting a major upgrade this spring! They will be temporarily closing to update several things, including the Aerial Tramway. The project is estimated to cost about $4.5 million. Learn more about Ober Gatlinburg and the Aerial Tramway upgrades below:
Aerial Tramway Updates
The Aerial Tramway will be closed March 22 to May 28, 2021 for upgrades and preventative maintenance. The original cables that were installed in 1973 will be replaced. It will also be switching to an AC drive system with a variable frequency controller. The cables have a 50-year lifespan, so they need to be replaced. While the tramway is closed, Ober Gatlinburg will offer a free shuttle ride from downtown Gatlinburg to the mountaintop where the park is located. All of the other attractions, shops, and restaurants will continue to operate while the Aerial Tramway is closed.
Ober Gatlinburg Upgrades
Ober Gatlinburg will be closed too, from April 26 through May 6, 2021 for cosmetic improvements, as well as routine maintenance and inspections. All departments will be closed during this time, and it will be completely closed to the public.
