Gatlinburg SkyBridge Added to the Historical Marker Database
Have you been to the Gatlinburg SkyLift Park and walked across the SkyBridge? If you have, then you know the excitement of crossing over the glass panels and seeing the sweeping mountain views as you walk across the bridge! The SkyBridge was just added to the Historical Marker Database, and we want to share more about it with you!
Historical Marker Database
The Historical Marker Database is an online database that documents the location of historic markers throughout the United States. Once a location is added to the database, it is awarded a plaque with some information about the landmark, and the same information is added to the online database so anyone can learn about the location.
The Gatlinburg SkyBridge was just added to this database. The plaque features the year the SkyBridge was built, who built it, and who designed it. You can see a picture of the plaque on the database’s website.
The SkyBridge is one of 5,215 historical markers in Tennessee, and it is located within 2 miles of 8 other historical markers that are found on the database.
About the Gatlinburg SkyBridge
The Gatlinburg SkyBridge was added to the Gatlinburg SkyLift Park in 2019 as part of its expansion. This is the longest pedestrian suspended bridge in the United States at 680 feet long, and it is suspended 150 feet in the air at the midpoint. Right in the middle of the bridge, you will find glass panels that span 30 feet, allowing you to look down into the forest below. As you walk across the bridge, you’ll have 360-degree views of downtown Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains!
Gatlinburg SkyLift Park
While the Gatlinburg SkyBridge is one of the highlights of the SkyLift Park, there are plenty of exciting things you’ll want to experience when you visit this attraction! Find out what else you can do when you visit the Gatlinburg SkyLift Park:
SkyLift
You can’t get to any of these fun things without taking a ride on the SkyLift! This chair lift is the oldest attraction in downtown Gatlinburg. It has been upgraded many times over the years, but you can’t miss the bright orange and yellow chairs making their way up the mountain!
SkyDeck
As you come off the SkyLift, you’ll step onto the SkyDeck. The SkyDeck is a huge observation deck that houses the SkyCenter and the paths to get to the SkyBridge and SkyTrail. There are rocking chairs, benches, and tables where you can sit and enjoy the incredible views from the top of the mountain. You’ll also enjoy the landscaping and just relaxing on the SkyDeck!
SkyCenter
In the SkyCenter, you will find a gift shop with a snack bar on the first floor. Grab some Smoky Mountain souvenirs to bring back home, such as t-shirts, magnets, figurines, and more. If you get hungry, grab a pretzel, nachos, or another snack! In the second level of the SkyCenter, there is a bar with panoramic views of the Smoky Mountains. If you are over 21, you can’t miss out on getting a drink and looking out at the views!
SkyTrail
One of the newest additions to the Gatlinburg SkyLift Park is the SkyTrail. This experience will allow visitors to walk from one end of the Gatlinburg SkyBridge to the other along a scenic walking trail on the edge of Crockett Mountain. There will be elevated wooden walkways, interactive signage, a steel tower, and more to see along the SkyTrail when it opens this summer!
