Mountain Mile Pigeon Forge: New Entertainment Complex Coming to the Smokies

A brand new shopping and entertainment complex is under development in Pigeon Forge, TN! Dubbed the Mountain Mile & Tower Shops, this eagerly anticipated destination will feature retail stores, attractions, restaurants, and even more fun things to see and do. A highlight of the new complex will be the Mountain Monster, a 200-foot tall thrill ride unlike anything else in the world. Visit My Smokies has put together a convenient guide to everything we know about the Mountain Mile Pigeon Forge.

Mountain Mile Location

The Mountain Mile is being built at the former Belz Mall in Pigeon Forge. Spanning over a mile of road frontage, the 174-acre complex will be situated along Teaster Lane and Jake Thomas Blvd. The Mountain Mile will be bordered by some of Pigeon Forge’s most popular destinations, including the Cal Ripken Experience, the LeConte Center, and The Island.

Phase 1 Plans for Mountain Mile Pigeon Forge

Dixon Greenwood, the principal developer for the project, told the Knoxville News Sentinel that he envisions the Mountain Mile as a place to “play, shop, eat – everything at one stop.” Part of the old Belz Mall is being demolished to make room for the new Mountain Monster attraction. The remaining 18,000 square feet of the Belz Mall will be renamed the Tower Shops and will host a variety of exciting new businesses.

According to Greenwood, the Tower Shops are expected to include an arcade, bowling alley, gastropub, sports bar, and a variety of other shops and restaurants. The former Belz Mall’s interior section will be left open in order to create an outdoor shopping experience.

About the Mountain Monster

The centerpiece of the new complex will be the Mountain Monster attraction. Standing at 200-feet tall, this impressive tower will feature four different thrill rides. In one ride, passengers will swing from the main tower to a smaller tower, a journey that will drop them down 65 feet and send them soaring over the parking lot. The main tower will also feature three other drop rides.

Since the attraction is monster-themed, the designer of the ride hopes to build a giant monster statue on top of the ride’s ticket booth. The proposed creature will have the head of a bear and bat-like wings that extend for 15 to 20 feet.

Phase 2 Plans for Mountain Mile Pigeon Forge

The immediate plans for the Mountain Mile are the Tower Shops and the Mountain Monster ride, but the developers are already dreaming up even more great ideas for the future. There are 72 acres of land located behind the Tower Shops that Dixon Greenwood hopes to fill with attractions. According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, possible ideas include a waterpark resort, a tubing park, a driving range, and outdoor adventure center, and an amphitheater. All of these concepts are just in the planning stages right now, and we can’t wait to see which ones are chosen for development!

Mountain Mile Pigeon Forge Opening Date

While no firm dates have been given yet, the developers hope to open the Mountain Monster and about half of the Tower Shops in the spring of 2019. We will be sure to update this blog as more information about the Mountain Mile becomes available.
