Dolly was nominated by her long-time friend Kenny Rogers last week. Apparently Kenny didn’t think that Dolly could complete the challenge because she is famous for her fake hair and nails.

Not one to ever back down from a challenge, on August 28, the Smoky Mountain sweetheart turned to YouTube with two of her nieces as she accepted the nomination saying, “Kenny, you’d be surprised at what all I do with my falses; for a good cause and a good laugh.”

Before completing the challenge, Dolly made sure to take off her earrings and her scarf. However, in true Dolly fashion, when the camera man pointed out that she should remove her shoes, Dolly replies, “Oh, they’re plastic! So’s the rest of me, but that’s beside the point!”

Dolly Parton completed the challenge from the comfort of her home in Nashville, TN while she is enjoying a small break after completing her international tour for her latest album, Blue Smoke. Dolly Parton’s album Blue Smoke has already hit number one on the music charts around the world.

For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, it is a viral movement that has taken the internet by storm where friends are nominated by other friends to either donate $100 to an ALS charity or dump a bucket of ice water on their head and donate $10. After you have accepted and completed the challenge, you are then to nominate three more of your friends to continue the movement.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

When she is not busy raising awareness for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, Dolly spends a lot of time raising money for her own charity, Imagination Library. The purpose of Imagination Library is to help improve the children’s literacy rate around the world by providing one age-appropriate book to children every month from birth to the age of 6.

Many times Dolly has referenced that it was watching her father struggle with reading as she was growing up that inspired her to start this charity.

The charity was started in 1995, right here in East Tennessee in Dolly Parton’s hometown of Sevierville TN. Today, the program has moved to four countries, and it has reached over 773,000 children.
