Smoky Mountain Trout Tournament Offers Prizes for Top Anglers

One of the sure signs of spring in the Smoky Mountains is people standing up to their waists in the rivers, casting a fly in hopes that a trout will rise and engage them in that generations-old battle between a fisherman and his quarry. And come this April, you can do that and win money!

The 13th
Annual Smoky Mountain Trout Tournament
is April 7 – 8. The Little Pigeon
River is stocked with more than 10,000 trout in 20 miles of streams prior to
the tournament. The tournament begins Saturday morning at sunrise and ends at 4
p.m. and Sunday from sunrise to 2 p.m. There are more than $10,000 in prizes,
including $500 for the largest trout, $500 for the smallest trout, gift
certificates, trophies, fishing equipment, amusement passes and much more. You
do have to register and there are rules to the tournament, so make sure to
visit the Web site to have all your ducks in a row.

This is the first of two tournaments held annually. The fall tournament is held the last weekend
in September. Rocky Top Outfitters in
Pigeon Forge is in charge of the tournament, and they know how to run a
first-class operation. They can also help you with outdoor activities,
including fishing trips on lakes and ponds and hunting trips. But that is for
another time, when you’re not fishing for money! This is a great chance to
introduce a child to fishing in a fun atmosphere or just to sharpen your
angling skills against one of mother nature’s fiercest fighters.
