One of Gatlinburg’s most beloved restaurants is back and better than ever! On October 2, 2017, the Alamo Steakhouse celebrated its grand reopening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The legendary steakhouse was completely rebuilt from the ground up in its original location. Visit My Smokies has all the details on the changes made to the Alamo Steakhouse in Gatlinburg and what guests can expect when they visit the restaurant.
Improvements Made to the Alamo Steakhouse in Gatlinburg
During the rebuilding process, the owners of the Alamo decided to make a few improvements to the steakhouse while still preserving the restaurant’s most iconic features. The outside of the restaurant is virtually identical to the original building, so guests will definitely feel a wave of nostalgia when they pull into the parking lot.
Dining Room for Special Events
Inside the steakhouse, visitors will find a brand new semi-private dining room. This special area can accommodate up to 12 guests and is designed to host business meetings, birthday parties, and other gatherings. Groups can call ahead to reserve this section of the restaurant for their event.
More Love Nests
The Alamo has also expanded its popular “love nests”. These romantic semi-private tables are perfect for couples celebrating an anniversary or another special occasion. The renovated steakhouse now features four love nests instead of three. Reservations for love nest dining at the Alamo can be made by phone or email, preferably 48 hours in advance.
Service at the Alamo Steakhouse is expected to be even faster than before, as the restaurant now features two grill lines and a kitchen that has doubled in size. The newly renovated steakhouse also increased its number of window booths in the front from five to 10.

The Same Food and Staff That You Love
Although the Alamo Steakhouse in Gatlinburg has some fancy new features, it still serves all of your favorite dishes! Kelly Johnson, the owner of the steakhouse, told local news station WATE, “Why would we change the menu? That would be silly”. Guests can still enjoy Alamo’s signature steaks, which are aged, hand cut, seasoned in-house, and grilled over an oak fire to perfection. Other popular items on the Alamo’s menu include the Bacon & Cheese Steak Burger, Santa Fe Chicken, Prime Rib Wrap, and Loaded Baked Potato.
When you return to the Alamo Steakhouse, you will see plenty of familiar faces. All but three of the restaurant’s original employees are back at the Gatlinburg location. While the steakhouse was being rebuilt, many of its staff members worked at other restaurants owned by the Johnson Family.
The steakhouse’s supervisor Ashley Williams told WBIR that returning to the Alamo Steakhouse in Gatlinburg feels like a homecoming: “Walking up, it does look the same…This is still the Alamo, just with a facelift. It’s been very exciting…to get to come back here and see it brand new [and] be back home with everybody”.
