Movie Theater Torn Down to Make Way for New Sevierville Shopping Center
If you’ve been a regular visitor to the Smoky Mountain area over the years, you’ll remember the old movie theater on Winfield Dunn Parkway (also known as Highway 66). A visit to Reel Theaters on the Parkway was a common stop for locals and visitors who were looking for fun things to do in Sevierville.
The old movie theater has now been cleared away to make room for a new development in the area. The theater shut down approximately 2 years ago and has been sitting empty, so we are excited about what’s next for the 16 acre site.
We are expecting nearly a dozen new retail shops to make their way to the area. The project is estimated to cost $25 million, according to an interview with local news station WATE.
The construction project will take place in 2 phases. The first phase will take place fall of this year and the second will take place in the spring of 2016. The first stores will open this fall 2015, but the entire project is expected to be completed by winter 2016.
To start, and opening this fall, visitors can shop at Hobby Lobby, Ulta and Dick’s Sporting Goods. PetSmart, Staples and Ross are expected to join as part of the second phase of construction.
We are excited about all of the new retailers coming to the area, but we are even more excited for all of the jobs that this will create right here in the Smoky Mountains. It is anticipated that 300 jobs will be available as these retail shops in Sevierville are rolled out.
