Asleep at the Wheel, Mandy Barnett Set To Rock Stage at Country Tonite Theater in Pigeon Forge

Described as “Bob Wills meets Patsy Cline,” the two country musical acts will take the stage on August 23 at 8 p.m.

Asleep at the Wheel got their start in the early ‘70’s when band members Ray Benson and Lucky Oceans co-founded the group in Paw Paw, West Virginia. From there be band headed west to California and released their first studio album ‘Comin’ Right At Ya’ in 1973. Over the past 40 years, Asleep at the Wheel has 18 songs on Billboard’s Top 100 chart, including “The Letter That Johnny Walker Read” that broke into the top 10. The band is known for their unique twist on the traditional western-swing style of country music. Today the nine-time Grammy award winning band is located out of Austin, Texas, and promises to bring an evening of fun and excitement to the Country Tonite Theater in Pigeon Forge.

Mandy Barnett

Mandy Barnett introduced herself to the country music world as a teenager playing the iconic Patsy Cline in the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville’s show “Always…Patsy Cline.” Barnett’s studio album “I’ve Got A Right To Cry” released in 1999, and immediately garnished the young singer with rave reviews from critics including Rolling Stone naming it “top country album.” Barnett’s voice can also be heard on popular movie soundtracks like “Election,” “Drop Dead Gorgeous” and “Space Cowboys.”

The remaining acts in Country Tonite Theater’s 2013 Celebrity Concert series include special performances by Jim Ed Brown, Helen Cornelius and Lynn Anderson on September 20, and a two-day back-to-back performance from Don Williams on October 18 and 19. Country Tonite Theater in Pigeon Forge is finishing out this year’s series with a must-see performance with long-time country music legends Gene Watson and Jeannie Seely on November 8.
