Live Like a Pioneer for a Day in Pigeon Forge, TN

The Old Mill in Pigeon ForgeHave you ever wondered what life was like for the original pioneers of East Tennessee? The Old Mill, one of the most popular restaurants in Pigeon Forge, gives visitors the chance to experience this first hand with the tenth annual Old Mill Heritage Day Festival. Showcasing the music, culinary and artistic talent of Smoky Mountain locals, this Pigeon Forge festival pays tribute to the timeless traditions passed down from generation to generation.

Music played a large part in the early settlers’ lives. In a time before cell phones, computers and iProducts, music and folklore was a way for the settlers to pass on stories and traditions in a way they would be remembered. Continuing that tradition, musical artists to perform at The Old Mill Heritage Day include Jimbo Whaley & Greenbrier, as well as Richard Bennett & Friends. These two groups blend together the country, gospel, bluegrass and folk influences into a crowd-pleasing mountain music show.

Other entertainment planned for the Pigeon Forge festival include old fashioned games, quilting demonstrations and great-tasting Appalachian food, and more.

The history doesn’t end there! While enjoying all the great food and entertainment, be sure to stop in and take a free guided tour of the historic Old Mill building. Built 183 years ago, The Old Mill is the oldest building in Pigeon Forge today.

This year’s Old Mill Heritage Day will be held on September 28 from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. at 175 Old Mill Ave. in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Admission is free. Organizers also urge guests to bring their own blankets and chairs for sitting.
