A Titanic Anniversary
Saturday, April 14 marks the 100th anniversary of perhaps the most famous shipwreck in American history – the Titanic. To mark this momentous occasion, the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge is hosting “A Night to Remember: An Original Musical Tribute to the Titanic”.
It’s the story almost everyone has heard. 2,208
people were on board when the Titanic left England bound for New York on its
maiden voyage. The largest ship of its time and thought to be unsinkable, it
was hailed as the crowning achievement of the shipbuilding industry. 400 miles
south of Newfoundland is where the ship sunk after hitting an iceberg. Only 712
people survived and many of them suffered from hypothermia and frostbite from
the 12-15 degree water. The remains of the ship were not found until 1985, some
13 miles away from where the ship was thought to have sunk. And then in 1997,
James Cameron’s gazillion dollar epic movie was released, which unfortunately
led to a lot of Celine Dion for the next few years.
The Titanic Museum Attractions are the only place
where visitors can attend a formal tribute. Musical performances, historic ceremonies and appearances by
actual descendants of Titanic’s passengers and crew will highlight the
production honoring those aboard the ship. The musical tribute begins at 8:30
p.m. Tickets are on sale now. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see a
tribute to a piece of American history.
