Sun Diner: One of the Best New Restaurants in Gatlinburg

Everyone probably knows about the new Smoky Mountain rooftop bar, Jason Aldean’s Kitchen, but did you know that the first floor is home to another iconic Nashville restaurant? Sun Diner has a new location right here in Gatlinburg TN, and we are here to share all the details about one of the best new restaurants in Gatlinburg that you should know about!

The Unique Story of Sun Diner

breakfast at the sun diner in gatlinburg tnSun Diner pays homage to another Nashville icon, Sun Records. This recording company was known for “rockabilly” combining the sounds of rock and roll and country music. Legendary artists who worked with Sun Records included Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, and many more. From the mid-1950s, Sun Records quickly became a hot spot for groundbreaking talent, and everything about Sun Diner, from the interior to the menu, honors and recognizes music history and its impact.

Location & Hours

The original Sun Diner is located in Nashville TN, and has now opened its second location at 646 Parkway in Gatlinburg. They are open 7 days a week, starting bright and early at 7 AM. You cannot make reservations in advance, as they are a walk-in-friendly establishment. The interior is filled with photographs and vintage decor commemorating the brilliant musicians and legends at Sun Records while also serving up delicious Southern classics and extending friendly hospitality to all its guests.

What to Expect

Chicken N’ Waffles: Their most popular dish includes 3 crispy chicken strips smothered in sausage gravy, served on top of a fluffy Belgian waffle, then drizzled with Sun Diner’s famous pecan maple syrup.

“Let’s Do The Twist” Creme Brulee French Toast: Thick-cut cinnamon bread is coated in a homemade Rum Chata creme brulee batter and served with fresh berries and whipped cream. For an added touch of deliciousness, we suggest adding the extra option of fresh bacon crumbles!

Donut Sandwich: Don’t knock it until you try it! Two glazed donuts act as the sandwich bun, and on the inside is a thick pork sausage patty, a fried egg, and melty cheddar cheese.

They have quite a few options to choose from for lunch too, or if you just prefer something other than traditional breakfast food! From a juicy burger to a hot chicken wrap or barbeque brisket sandwich, there’s something for everyone! The fire-roasted chicken quesadilla with caramelized onions and pico de gallo is another favorite, but The “Greatest Hits” Burger Melt is the star of the show!  They make 2 grilled cheese melts with a variety of American and cheddar cheese, then sandwich an Angus beef steak burger in the middle with caramelized onions and pickles.
