When most folks picture Fourth of July in the Smoky Mountains, they imagine colorful firework displays high above the peaks, parades throughout the streets, and summer celebrations. This year, the biggest spark of excitement isn’t in the sky, it’s rolling along the rails! Dollywood is elevating the summer excitement with the return of this classic roller coaster on Independence Day! As guests prepare for sparklers and fun, Blazing Fury represents the ultimate grand finale, and one we can’t wait to hop aboard once again! Keep reading for all the details:

Blazing Fury: A Smoky Mountain Tradition

Blazing Fury first opened in 1978, before Dollywood grew into the beast it is today and when it was still known as Silver Dollar City. It’s long been a roller coaster beloved by all ages, especially young thrill seekers, and a source of nostalgia for guests who return to Dollywood numerous times over the years.

This indoor coaster is set in a fictional 1800s town engulfed by flames, creating a chaotic dash from the flames for its residents. Guests hop aboard a coal-car train, navigating sudden drops and sharp turns as around them firefighters work to save neighbors, flames take over homes, and damsels in distress try to escape the blaze.

Blazing Fury isn’t the biggest or fastest coaster at Dollywood, but it offers guests an experience filled with mountain lore that perfectly encapsulates the Smokies. It’s a ride that leaves guests wanting to come back for more, regardless of age!

The Reopening of Blazing Fury

Blazing Fury remained closed when Dollywood opened for its 40th season on March 14th to undergo maintenance and receive improvements to its cars, track, and theme. Blazing Fury is the second-oldest attraction at Dollywood, with only The Dollywood Express being older.

Dollywood plans to celebrate the reopening of Blazing Fury at 10 a.m. on the Fourth of July with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Members of the Pigeon Forge Fire Department will have the honor of being the first people to ride Blazing Fury when it reopens.

Blazing Fury is a ride that everyone can enjoy. It’s particularly a great option for families with younger children who want to give their kids that first taste of coasters.
