Ober Gatlinburg Under New Ownership: 3 Changes the Sevier County Natives Have in Store
Since its opening in 1962, Ober Gatlinburg has been a staple to the Smoky Mountains! The establishment has provided a ski area and amusement park that visitors have enjoyed for generations! Claude Anders has been running the establishment since 1975 and was responsible for the merger of the Aerial Tramway and resort into what we know today as Ober Gatlinburg. There are changes in store in the near future! The torch has been passed to Sevier County natives Joe Baker, Cory Cottongim and Chuck Edwards. Baker is well known for founding Ole Smoky Moonshine and Yee-Haw Brewing and is excited to continue the visions of Anders. Here are 3 changes the Sevier County natives have in store:
1. New Logo and Renaming Resort
One thing the new owners are insistent on is continuing to make the establishment a special place up in the Smoky Mountains for visitors to experience. Ober Gatlinburg has a new logo and name update! The new owners released a new logo and renamed the establishment Ober Mountain. The new logo and renaming the resort are just some of the changes coming to the attraction in the Smoky Mountains.
2. Renovation of Ober Gatlinburg Aerial Tramway Mall
There are already so many wonderful things to do at Ober Gatlinburg! Some activities include skiing, eating at restaurants, shopping, and more! Plans are in the works for the renovation of the Ober Gatlinburg Aerial Tramway Mall. It will now simply be called “base camp.” Yee-Haw Brewing Company, co-founded by Baker, is going to be a part of the renovation project! Currently, the base camp includes stores like Tramway Gifts, Chocolate Monkey, Pepper Palace, The Silver Galleon, Green River Gallery, and Spa to Go. Details are still very early in the works, so stay tuned for more information.
3. Resort Expansion
In the near future, expect to see Ober Gatlinburg spruced up and some wonderful expansions coming your way! The new owners are looking to work on the base lodge and clean up other areas around the resort. They also are planning to work on an expansion! Some of the expansion ideas include a trail expansion, completing the downhill mountain biking park, zip lines, and an ATV course! These are just some of the possibilities that may be coming very soon. The new owners are all about bringing new attractions that do not currently exist in Sevier County as well! Whatever the changes that come, the new owners are passionate about making the resort even better for future generations to enjoy!
