The Titanic Pigeon Forge Museum will be hosting its 3rd annual ice carving competition on Saturday, January 19, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. World famous ice sculptors will be given 250-pound blocks of ice to turn into incredible creations and compete for prize money. The event will take place outside in the Titanic Museum’s outdoor entertainment center and is offering free admission to everyone.
After the competition, visitors can take a tour of the ship and get to see artifacts recovered from the Titanic wreckage site, hear stories from survivors, walk up the grand staircase, go on the deck at night, and feel a real iceberg along with water that is the same temperature as on the night of the Titanic’s fateful sinking. Cards are given at the beginning of the tour with a passenger’s name and life story up to the point of their trip on the Titanic. At the end of the tour, there is a list with names of who survived the sinking and who did not.
There are also plenty of other things to do while in Pigeon Forge. Visitors have a wide variety of food choices. There are standard fast food restaurants like Burger King, McDonald’s, and Wendy’s or visitors can opt to have breakfast at Flapjack’s Pancake Cabin in the morning and have filet mignon at Tony Roma’s for dinner. Or if preferred, visitors can go to one of the various dinner shows including the Hatfield and McCoy dinner show, Lumberjack Feud, and Dixie Stampede.
In between meals visitors can go to Wonderworks where the building and everything inside has been built upside-down, take a helicopter ride through one of the scenic tour companies, or go flying at the indoor skydiving facility. Visitors can also get a photo shoot dressed in western attire or play a round of miniature golf at one of the various themed locations.
There are also many lodging choices if visitors plan to stay the night. There are several hotels in town and there are hundreds of cabins available for rental. Many cabins are close to town and easy to get to while others can take longer to get to. Some are even at the tops of surrounding mountains and offer spectacular views of the city at any time of day.
