Cades Cove Event to Showcase Full Moon Over the Smokies

Giant red moon rise over dark northern forestWhen your family visits the Smoky Mountains in the fall, there’s a good chance you will have Cades Cove on your list of places to go. As one of the most popular destinations in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Cades Cove is filled with historical buildings and beautiful wildlife. To experience the beauty of the night sky in the Smokies, Cades Cove is offering a nighttime walk to enjoy the full moon over the mountains.

The Cades Cove Full Moon Walk is set for Thursday, October 17. Families can meet at the Orientation Shelter at the entrance to the Cades Cove Loop Road, where they will be greeted for the walk. The event will begin at 7 p.m. and is set to last approximately 2 hours.

The two-mile walk is perfect for entire families who want to see the Smoky Mountains from a different perspective. It is important for everyone to wear comfortable walking shoes for the walk. Hiking boots or tennis shoes are the best options for the event.

It is helpful to take a flashlight to Cades Cove during the evening walk, so you can have a clear view of the walking path. Make sure to pack a few bottles of water to quench your thirst, since you will not be close to any water fountains or drink machines. The weather may be chilly during the evening hours, so you may want to wear a jacket.
