Dolly Parton Earns Golden Globe Nomination for “Girl in the Movies”
Our Smoky Mountain hometown hero has been nominated for a Golden Globe. “Girl in the Movies” earned Dolly Parton a nomination for the 2019 Golden Globe Awards! The song is part of the soundtrack for the new Netflix movie, “Dumplin’.” We’ve got all the details on the track and the nomination.
Golden Globes Nomination
“Girl in the Movies,” one of Dolly Parton’s newest songs, earned her a 2019 Golden Globe nomination. This is Dolly’s 6th Golden Globe nomination. In 1981, she received 3 nominations for “9 to 5” in the Best Original Song, Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, and Star of the Year categories. In 1983, she was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress for “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.” In 2006, her song “Travelin’ Thru” was nominated for Best Original Song. Even with all her nominations, Dolly Parton has never won a Golden Globe. This year could be her first!
“Girl in the Movies” is featured during the new movie, “Dumplin,’” which hit select theaters and Netflix on December 7. Other nominees in the category include “All of the Stars” from “Black Panther,” “Revelation” from “Boy Erased,” “Shallow” from “A Star is Born,” and “Requiem for a Private War” from “A Private War.”
About “Dumplin’”
“Dumplin’” is based on Julie Murphy’s best-selling young adult novel with the same title, which is full of references to Dolly. The protagonist of the move is Willowdean Dickson, who loves Dolly’s songs and sayings and signs herself up for the Miss Teen Bluebonnet pageant. Originally, Dolly was only going to write the theme song for the movie, but she ended up composing 6 original songs for the “Dumplin’” soundtrack, including the Golden Globe-nominated “Girl in the Movies.” The touching song is about a young woman who wants to be as bold and as free as the girl in the movies.
Other Dolly Parton News: Dolly Parton’s Netflix Series
“Dumplin’” isn’t the only production Dolly has in store for her fans. She’s also releasing an 8-part series on Netflix sometime in 2019! The series will bring some of Dolly’s famous hits to life and elaborate more on the stories behind the songs. The first episode of the series will focus on her hit, “Jolene,” with Julianne Hough portraying Jolene. Dolly herself will be in the debut episode too, portraying a woman named Babe who runs the local honky-tonk that Jolene works at.

More Dolly Fun Coming to the Smoky Mountains
In addition to her work in the film world, Dolly Parton has been hard at work preparing to bring a new pirate-themed dinner show to Pigeon Forge! The Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show has been successful in Myrtle Beach for almost a decade, so Dolly wanted to bring the fun to the Smoky Mountains as well. The show will feature full-sized pirate ships in a 15-foot-deep indoor lagoon, acrobatic competitions, special effects, live animals, and original music by Parton and Mark Brymer. Guests will also get to enjoy a pirate feast as they watch the show!
