Pop Artist Makes ‘Unexpected’ Visit to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge

An extremely popular singer, songwriter and actress, made a quick stop in Pigeon Forge at the end of last week! On Thursday, June 26, 2014, pop vocalist Katy Perry (along with her dancers) made an ‘unexpected’ appearance at Dollywood.

According to CNN, Katy Perry has topped the list as the most awarded digital act ever. Her fans have purchased 72 million singles online (20 million more than other artists in the running). So far, Katy has been awarded with 18 gold, 16 platinum and 56 multiplatinum digital singles awards in addition to two album awards.

From what we’ve gathered of Katy’s visit to Dollywood, she is quite the thrill-seeker. While she was  there, she was spotted riding the Wild Eagle, Tennessee Tornado and Thunderhead roller coasters with her team of dancers. She also visited Dolly’s Closet, the Country Fair area and the Robert F. Thomas Chapel.

Local news station, WBIR, reported that Dollywood staff expected Katy at the park, but she made it clear that she wanted no special treatment, and wanted to be treated like a regular park guest. She was in town specifically to visit Dollywood before making her way to perform at her Nashville concert on Friday night.

After visitors saw Katy Perry at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, she sent out a couple of tweets about the attraction. Her first tweet, coming in at 12:22 a.m., read, “We just done tore up Dollywood’s turkey legs & had a helluva country bumpin time!” While in the park, she ate at Aunt Granny’s buffet, where she enjoyed Southern fare like turkey legs and barbecue.

Two minutes later, at 12:42 a.m., she tweeted out a video of her singing a Dolly Parton song.
