About Sevierville

The Gateway to the Smokies

Sevierville TN is less commonly heard of than the popular cities of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, but its known for being the gateway to the Smoky Mountains. Visitors often drive through Sevierville to get to Pigeon Forge, but Sevierville is home to plenty of excitement of its own. The town was founded in 1795, making it Tennessee's 8th oldest town. It's named after John Sevier, the state's first governor. Over the years, the small town has evolved into a bustling vacation city with amazing attractions, restaurants, and shops.

Take a walk on the wild side at educational attractions featuring exotic animals like kangaroos, zebras, snakes and emus. There is even a museum featuring war bird airplanes and plenty of go-kart tracks and putt-putt golf to keep everyone entertained. There are so many opportunities for family-friendly fun in Sevierville.

While we’re well known for exciting things to do in Sevierville Tennessee, we’re also famous for our shopping. The largest outlet mall in the area is located in Sevierville, totaling over 120 high-end, name-brand outlets. Shopping ranges from high-end outlet stores and boutiques to galleries, antique stores, flea markets, and even a scrapbook store with the largest inventory in the U.S.

Best of all, Sevierville is only minutes away from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, America’s most visited national park and the only one that is free to enter and enjoy, with the exception of a parking pass. Sevierville is also the hometown of music legend Dolly Parton. Dolly was born and raised here along with her 11 brothers and sisters. She was regularly heard on Sevierville’s WSEV radio station before she was 10 years old and was also a regular on the Knoxville television program, “The Cas Walker Show.” A statue of Dolly, which was sculpted by local artist Jim Gray, has graced the lawn of the Sevier County Courthouse since 1987 – only a year after she opened her Dollywood theme park. Dolly often comes home in the spring for the park’s seasonal grand opening and may make several other appearances throughout the year.
