6 Shows in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg You Forgot Existed

The Smokies are known for their toe-tapping musical and side-splitting comedy shows. Many of them have come and gone over the years, and we wanted to take a trip down memory lane to remind you about some of your favorite shows you can’t see anymore. Find out more about these 6 shows in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg you forgot existed:

1. Black Bear Jamboree

pigeon forge parkwayLoved by many, Black Bear Jamboree was full of entertaining musical performances. People enjoyed listening to country, broadway, bluegrass, and gospel music. There were singers and dancers, as well as elaborate costumes, beautiful sets, and all kinds of black bear decor throughout the theater. Not only did Black Bear Jamboree provide a show, they also had a country dinner for guests to enjoy. Today, the Hatfield and McCoy Dinner Show is located where Black Bear Jamboree was.

2. Smoky Mountain Opry

Smoky Mountain Opry is the most recent show in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg to close. Guests could watch all kinds of performances, from singing and dancing to aerial acrobatics and pyrotechnics. As far as music went, you could hear disco, motown, and crooners like Frank Sinatra. There was old country and new country, as well as Broadway music. People saw live animals perform, comedy acts, and so much more at Smoky Mountain Opry.

3. Sweet Fanny Adams Theatre

Located in Gatlinburg, this show provided plenty of laughs with the comedy sketches and entertained with musical performances. This show specialized in Vaudeville costumes and slapstick comedy, which kept people coming back year after year. Plus, the cast would pull people out of the audience to participate in the show. Sweet Fanny Adams Theatre was open for 44 years before they closed.

4. Acrobats of China

The Acrobats of China show was slightly different from the other comedic and musical shows you usually found in the Smokies. This show featured a troupe of performers that were highly skilled in all kinds of aerial arts, including aerial silks, dancing, and acrobatics. The costumes were bejeweled and colorful, catching your eye as soon as the performers were onstage. Guests were definitely impressed by the skill required by the performers at Acrobats of China.

5. Magic Beyond Belief

magic beyond belief with darren romeoMagic Beyond Belief was a magic show starring Darren Romeo, the first and only protege of world-famous magicians Siegfried & Roy. He created illusions that were performed in his show, and guests would marvel at the “magic” he performed. While he did these tricks, he would also sing. There was comedy, incredible costumes, and animal performers to round out the show.

6. Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Adventure

Another show in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg you probably forgot existed was Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Adventure. This show told the tale of two families who weren’t fond of each other coming to understand one another through love. It included stunts, acrobatic feats, aerial performances, music, and a southern feast. Eventually, the show closed, and now you can see Pirates Voyage Dinner and Show where this show once was!
