Smoky Mountain Springtime

Ahhhh, springtime. The season of rebirth and renewal. Spring means more daylight, warmer temperatures, spring training, even inspiration for Mel Brooks’ musicals. Even better for visitors in the Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg’s three-month celebration Springfest begins.

Beginning on March 9 and ending on June 3,
Gatlinburg transforms from a winter wonderland to a blooming For starters, you’ll notice how the landscape
in the city changes. Baskets of tulips, pansies, daffodils, lantanas, scaveolas
and many more are blooming. There will be entertainment among the sidewalks of
the downtown parkway.

Beginning in April, there are various events
highlighting all Gatlinburg has to offer. First, on April 4 -7, members of the Great Smoky Arts &
Crafts
community show off their unique handcrafted goods at the Gatlinburg
Convention Center. Then on Sunday morning, April 8, Ober Gatlinburg has the 14th
annual Easter sunrise service. This is
an event with a view unlike any other. Free tram rides to the top of the
mountain begin at 5:45 a.m. The service starts at 6:30 a.m. Once the service is
over, there is a breakfast at the Ober Gatlinburg Restaurant.

Then April 25 – 29, the 62nd annual Spring
Wildflower Pilgrimage is the event for the hiker and nature lover. This 5 day
program has more than 150 walking tours covering all types of trails, from easy
to strenuous, lectures, exhibitions, demonstrations, and motor trips.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a festival without food.
Thursday, April 26 is Gatlinburg’s
Ribfest & Wings
featuring more than 20 vendors from around the
Southeast. With free entertainment, what better way to spend a late April
afternoon than sampling ribs and wings while listening to great music.

Springfest stretches across three months, showcasing
how a great mountain city displays all the beauty that spring has to offer.
