When visiting the Smoky Mountains area you will likely travel the distance from Pigeon Forge to Gatlinburg at least a couple of times during your trip. The ultimate vacation spots in Tennessee is Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, but half the fun is getting there. One of the most scenic highways in the Great Smokey Mountains is between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg on the highway known as The Parkway TN71S/US441S. This route meanders through forested mountain terrain, following the winding path of the Little Pigeon River. Cascading waters on either side of the road explode off giant boulders amongst a dynamic portrait of vegetated beauty. The drive is approximately 7 miles and takes only 15 very short minutes. Be sure to keep a sharp eye out for that black bear and her cubs, as many species of wildlife are visible on this route. You will travel through a short tunnel that was cut through the mountainside, adding some technological beauty to the jaunt. Along the way, stop off at the Gatlinburg Welcome Center on Banner Rd. Here you can pick up brochures, maps, and other pertinent information about the area. You can browse through the ‘Made in Gatlinburg Store’ where local handcrafted items are on display. If you plan to visit for a while, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg offer comfortable lodgings that compliment your stay as well as numerous restaurant selections to satisfy most any cuisine you desire. The Great Smoky Mountains is the most visited national park in America. With so much eye-catching scenery, it is impossible for anyone driving to see everything while navigating their own vehicle. So don’t waste your gasoline traveling to the seasonal array of places and events. The Pigeon Forge Trolley and the Gatlinburg Trolley systems will take you to within walking distance of any place you want to visit on their extensive routes. The costs for most trips are from 50 cents to a dollar (much less than parking in Gatlinburg), and well worth the sightseeing experience, you can park at the Gatlinburg Welcome center for free and get on the Gatlinburg Trolley there.
