Winter Activities at Ober Mountain
One of the best parts about visiting Ober Mountain in the winter is the snow! Ober makes their own snow for the ski slopes by blowing water mist into the air, which turns into snow before it hits the ground. The snow on the tubing hill is made by a refrigerated snow-making system that puts out frozen shaved/powderized ice. Here are the best winter activities you can enjoy in the snow:
Skiing & Snowboarding – Everyone loves hitting the slopes at Ober in the winter! Whether you’ve skied/snowboarded before or are trying it for the first time, you’ll have a blast at this attraction. Ober has qualified instructors who teach the ins and outs of downhill skiing and snowboarding and will have you feeling like a pro in no time. If you don’t have your own equipment, don’t worry — Ober has skis and snowboards and clothing you can rent! Tickets for skiing and snowboarding are good for one session, and you can go down the slopes as many times as you can fit into the session.
Tubing – If you don’t want to go skiing or snowboarding but still want to enjoy the snow, try snow tubing! Snow tubing allows you to enjoy all the fun of snow tubing without having to walk back up the hill. Grab your tube and step on the Magic Carpet to be transported up to the top of the tubing hill. The tubing area of the park features 10 lanes across a 400-foot hill, so you can race down at the same time as your friends and family!
The Snow Zone – Families and kids love spending time in The Snow Zone! This play area is the perfect place for everyone to play in the snow during the winter. Build snowmen, make snow angels, or just run around and have fun!

Ice Skating / Ice Bumper Cars – Ice skating is a fun winter activity that you can enjoy indoors at Ober Mountain! Skating is available year round at this attraction, but it’s even more fun in the winter. Glide and spin across the indoor ice arena with your friends and family before trying one of the newer activities at Ober: Ice Bumper Cars. The arena has been divided to allow space for visitors to experience bumper cars on the ice! The round tubes have wheels that let you glide around the ice with ease. You can just ride around, or bump into other tubes. Either way, you’ll have a great time!
Aerial Tramway – The best way to get to Ober Mountain in the winter is to ride the Aerial Tramway, which departs from downtown Gatlinburg. The tram soars high above Gatlinburg for 2.1 miles and offers breathtaking views of the town and the Smoky Mountains. It’s an incredible aerial adventure that everyone will love.
Alpine Slide – For a more thrilling activity, ride the Alpine Slide! You’ll take the Scenic Chairlift to the midway point, where you’ll unload and hop in a sled-like cart. Wind down an 1,800-foot track that takes you down the forests of Mount Harrison. The best part about this ride is that you control your own speed with a push-pull lever. Go slow to take in the views, or race down the track!

Most activities at the park begin at 10 a.m., and slopes often open at 9 a.m. The Aerial Tramway opens at 9:40 a.m. daily.
