The Gatlinburg Sky Lift officially reopened at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017 – just in time for Memorial Day weekend!
To celebrate the reopening of the Sky Lift, Gatlinburg Mayor Mike Werner and Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters rode the celebratory first chair up the Sky Lift!
The Gatlinburg Sky Lift originally opened in 1954 and, in most recent years, has welcomed over 450,000 riders each year. Now, it’s just as popular once again!
What’s New at the New Gatlinburg Sky Lift?
- There are now 92 chairs at the Sky Lift
- Each chair can seat up to 3 people
- The lift is just a little bit taller than before, so riders will reach 8-10 feet higher
When it first reopened, the Sky Lift was a continuous ride. Now, the Gatlinburg SkyDeck is complete! Visitors can get off the top and enjoy a great view, gift shop, snack bar and more. Not to mention, the Gatlinburg SkyLift Park is now home to North America’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge!
Kids and adults are welcome to ride on the Sky Lift!

My husband and I we’re in Gatlinburg in April and I was disappointed to see the ride closed as I rode it before but he had not. Glad to see that it’s reopened. We are coming back in September (from Florida) so we will be visiting the Skylift!
Closed due to the fire in Gatlinburg , I’m assuming..
It was closed temporarily for reconstruction, but it’s open again! Please be sure to ride when you visit again in September!
