Once the busyness of the holiday season wears off, the Smokies get ready for the spring season! While Gatlinburg doesn’t really have an “off season,” March tends to see fewer crowds than the upcoming warm weather months. If you want to enjoy shorter wait times and less traffic, start planning your March vacation! To help you plan, we’ve made a list of 7 of the best things to do in Gatlinburg in March:

1. Go for a Hike

We recommend enjoying the weather that’s not too hot and not too cold and going for a hike in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park! This is also the month that some of the spring wildflowers start to bloom. The best hikes to spot some of the wildflowers in March are the Little River Trail and Porters Creek Trail. Other great hikes to do in March are the Laurel Falls Trail, Alum Cave Trail and Andrews Bald.

2. Visit the Gatlinburg SkyLift Park

One of the best outdoor attractions to visit in March is the Gatlinburg SkyLift Park! This famous attraction continues to grow year after year to add more exciting experiences for guests. Your adventure starts with a ride on the Gatlinburg SkyLift to the top of Crockett Mountain. From there, you can take in the views from the SkyDeck, shop and grab a bite to eat in the SkyCenter, or walk across the SkyBridge. Keep an eye out for the brand new Gatlinburg SkyTrail, which is set to open sometime in the spring!

3. Explore Anakeesta

This exciting mountaintop attraction is filled with outdoor adventures the whole family will love. Keep warm during cool March temperatures by the fire pit, and enjoy expansive views of Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains everywhere you turn. Don’t miss the chance to climb to the top of the AnaVista Tower, which is the highest point in downtown Gatlinburg! You can also go ziplining, ride a mountain coaster, shop, walk across the Treetop Skywalk and so much more. End your visit to Anakeesta with dinner at the Cliff Top restaurant as you take in views of Mount LeConte!

4. Go Moonshine Tasting

Moonshine tasting has always been a favorite activity for Smoky Mountain visitors. You don’t want to miss the chance to sample Tennessee’s finest moonshine when you visit in March! Some of the best places to go are Ole Smoky Moonshine Holler and Sugarlands Distilling Company. Both places offer $5 moonshine tastings, and that $5 can be put toward the purchase of any item from their distillery. Popular moonshine flavors at Ole Smoky are the White Lightnin’, Apple Pie, Moonshine Pickles and Mountain Java. Popular flavors at Sugarlands include Mark & Digger’s Hazelnut Rum, Mark Rogers American Peach, Chipper Jones’ Sweet Tea and Banana Pudding Sippin’ Cream. Don’t be surprised if you don’t make it out the door without purchasing a jar to take with you!

5. Dine at Popular Restaurants

Take advantage of this opportunity to dine at popular restaurants with shorter wait times! While we can’t guarantee there won’t be wait times, they’ll definitely be shorter than the summer months. Enjoy breakfast at the Pancake Pantry, lunch at No Way Jose’s and dinner at The Peddler without waiting for hours! Other popular Gatlinburg restaurants are Loco Burro, Cherokee Grill, The Park Grill, Crockett’s Breakfast Camp and Alamo Steakhouse.

6. Play Mini Golf at Hillbilly Golf

March is the month that the best place to play mini golf in Gatlinburg reopens for the season! Hillbilly Golf is a favorite among both visitors and locals. Ride the incline to the top of the mountain for a unique mini golf experience. Hillbilly Golf has 2 challenging 18-hole courses that are full of mountain-themed obstacles.
