The 2013 F-100 Supernationals Truck Show Experience

Ray of sunlight shining down on the Smoky Mountains at dawnFrom May 16 to 18, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee will be the home for the exciting 2013 F-100 Supernationals Truck Show and All-Ford Show. This year’s title sponsor is Dennis Carpenter of Ford Restoration Parts, who has been part of the Show for more than 30 years. As always, the F-100 Supernationals will be held in Pigeon Forge city’s Municipal parking lot due to its central access to hotels, restaurants and entertainment – and based, in no small part, to the demand of spectators, vendors and participants.

Who We Are…and What it’s About

The Supernationals is one of the largest Ford F-100 series truck shows in the United States, geared towards enthusiasts of this model truck or just plain classic vehicles. A variety of F-100s – from all-original variants to expressively modified – will be on display, with numerous vendors on hand with access to not only F-100 parts but all manner of parts and accessories for spectators’ own vehicles. Because of its strategic location outside of parkway access in Pigeon Forge, traffic is substantially better navigated.

Headquartered at the Pigeon Forge Municipal Parking Facility, the show is situated on Teaster Lane, running parallel to the Pigeon Forge Parkway, and takes place at a perfect time of year – just before the summer traffic begins picking up around Memorial Day. The weather is generally ideal, and coupled with the accessibility due to slow traffic, the Supernationals is just a downright awesome truck show.

The “Master of Ceremonies” Returns

For the past two years, Sam Memmelo has been “the voice” of the F-100 show, officially given this title – more specifically referred to as “The Voice of the F-100 Supernationals and All-Ford Show” – and now returning for 2013.

WonderWorks Pigeon Forge TN Amazing Guest Of All Ages

WonderWorks Museum in Pigeon Forge

WonderWorks in Pigeon Forge is a fun entertainment center for the whole family featuring more than 100 interactive exhibits on science themes such as physics, space and math. For example, guests to WonderWorks can feel hurricane force winds, experience a simulated earthquake and discover space exploration. WonderWorks opens daily at 9 AM, and general admission covers all exhibits and a ropes challenge course.

WonderWorks is perhaps the most unusual building in Pigeon Forge, as it appears completely upside down from the exterior. As a matter of fact, when entering the building everything appears to be upside down. Therefore, to participate in the activities at WonderWorks, guests must enter an inversion tunnel to be turned right side up! Once guests have properly realigned themselves, they can start to experience the many fun interactive exhibits.

The WonderWorks exhibit areas are broken into zones, such as the Disaster Zone, Challenge Zone and Space Zone. The Disaster Zone recreates the infamous 1989 San Francisco earthquake in a simulation where guests will experience a quake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale! The Challenge Zone is an area where guests can test their physical strength and dexterity in a variety of activities including a rock climbing wall. The Space Zone allows guests to explore a life size replica of an Astronaut Space Suit and Mercury Capsule.

Additional exhibits at WonderWorks include the Bed of Nails, Wonder Coasters, Bubble Lab and the Far Out Illusion Gallery. The Bed of Nails is a fascinating exhibit which gives guests the opportunity to lie down on top of a bed of 3,500 sharp nails and learn why they do not feel the pressure of the nails. Wonder Coasters is a unique exhibit where guests use physics to design the wildest rollercoaster of their imagination, and then actually ride their creation! The Bubble Lab gives guests a chance to create a huge bubble and even go inside it. Finally, the Far Out Illusion Gallery presents a variety of illusions to challenge guests’ perceptions.

To compliment the illusions, science exhibits and entertainment inside of the building, WonderWorks presents a magic show called the Wonders of Magic. This show features magician Terry Evanswood performing tricks from the sleight of hand to illusions on a grand scale. The Wonders of Magic is a separately ticketed event from WonderWorks, but combination tickets are available that include both WonderWorks and the show.

Pancakes Anyone?

Blueberry pancakes with fresh blueberries and maple syrup on white plateSizzling pancakes hot off the griddle is a common American fantasy, and this fantasy becomes reality in many of Tennessee’s breakfast restaurants. Whether you are a visitor to this state or a resident, you will enjoy sampling pancakes at some of Tennessee’s finest breakfast establishments. Restaurants in Gatlinburg, Sevierville and Pigeon Forge will be our focus in this deliciously syrup-filled pancake discussion.

Breakfast restaurants in Gatlinburg are numerous, but there are only a few that that provide pancakes with a heavenly taste. There is one pancake restaurant in Gatlinburg that consistently receives positive reviews from people who chow down and come back for more. Log Cabin Pancake House is appreciated by residents and visitors for its no-nonsense approach to hearty breakfast food. Pancakes, crepes and waffles with side orders of eggs, sausage and bacon are the foods served at this highly rated establishment. Two other pancake restaurants in Gatlinburg, Pancake Pantry and Flapjack’s Pancake Cabin, are moderately satisfying but do not have the extensive reputation of Log Cabin Pancake House.

The good news for people visiting Pigeon Forge is that Log Cabin Pancake House has a location there as well. However, if you are looking for a little more variety in your pancake selection, pancake restaurants in Pigeon Forge are numerous. Smokies Breakfast House serves the standard breakfast fare; pancakes, sausage, waffles and more. Likewise, another pancake restaurant to put on your list is Red Rooster Pancake House, a place that serves classical food in a farmhouse setting.

The last Tennessee town we’re visiting for some voracious pancake eating is Sevierville, and the area certainly does not disappoint. This town contains predictable pancake chains such as IHOP, and it has a few local breakfast joints as well. Flapjack’s Pancake Cabin has a location in Sevierville, and although it does not have top ratings, it has heaps of tasty pancakes and a certain local charm that will appeal to most visitors.

Whether you’re stopping by Pigeon Forge, Sevierville or Gatlinburg for some fresh country pancakes, you will not be disappointed by your selection. Tennessee is famous for its breakfast restaurants, and pancakes in this state are delicious and easy to acquire. We hope to see you at our favorite pancake joints, devouring a mighty stack of blueberry, chocolate chip or apple pancakes with a generous serving of syrup.
