Dollywood’s Splash Country New Ride For Summer 2013

Little girl coming down the water slideDollywood’s Splash Country is planning to unveil the park’s crown achievement in the summer of 2013. The wildly successful water park’s latest project is a cutting-edge electromagnetic waterslide. The new attraction is based on a design on a successful HydroMagnetic Rocket water coaster. The technology uses state-of-the art motors engineered to create an electromagnetic field strong enough to propel the rafts uphill. Riders will get the unique sensation of riding a roller coaster through churning rapids. Named RiverRush, the ride will be the first water coaster in Tennessee and be distinctive thrill for Dollywood’s guests. The opening of RiverRush in May 2013 is a great reason to visit Pigeon Forge. The innovative coaster is an experience that shouldn’t be missed as well as other classic rides in Splash Country. The park first opened in May 2001 offering exciting attractions such as Little Creek Falls, Mountain Scream, the Downbound Float Trip, Wild River Falls, Mountain Waves, and Raging River Rapids. Following the park’s successful opening, a two acre expansion including Soaker Springs and Mountain Twist debuted in 2003. The park continued to grow adding luxury cabanas called Riverside Retreats, the speed slides at Bear Mountain Fire Tower, the curling water slide SwiftWater Run, and the 300 foot mat slides of Slick Rock Racer.

There are host of activities to do in Pigeon Forge like the main Dollywood Theme Park, a massive park designed by famed entertainer Dolly Parton. The park is home to classic roller coasters and daily concerts. The park debuted in 1961 as Rebel Railroad and operated as Goldrush then Silver Dollar City Tennessee until 1986, when Dolly Parton became part owner. The park re-opened as Dollywood and has continued to grow. Another memorable experience is whitewater rafting near Pigeon Forge on either the Nantahala or Ocoee rivers. Whitewater rafting is an effective team building exercise that is a thrilling experience for rafters as they paddle through churning whitewater with a beautiful mountain backdrop. The town of Pigeon Forge has many unique attractions along the Parkway including Wonderworks, Zorb!, Fantasy Golf, Flyaway Indoor Skydiving, Hollywood Wax Museum, Kid’s Country, Jurassic Jungle Boat Ride, MagiQuest, Pigeon Forge Gem Mine, Waldens Landing Firehouse Golf, Scenic Helicopter Tours, Professor Hacker’s Lost Treasure Golf, Rockin’ Raceway, Star Tracks, Titanic Museum, and The Tomb. A great way to enjoy all Pigeon Forge has to offer is by selecting from one of the many Gatlinburg cabin rentals.

Gatlinburg is next door to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Gatlinburg’s prized Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum has been completely rebuilt since its 1992 fire. Ripley’s has gone on to build a moving 3-D theater, a haunted house, a mirror maze, Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, and other Gatlinburg attractions. Live actors thrill guests at Ripley’s Haunted Adventure. The former casket factory has been upgraded into a topnotch, lavish horror set. Inside the 2,000 square feet of mirrored pathways is Ripley’s Candy Factory.

Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies may be inland but is one of the nation’s best aquariums. The diverse exhibits include the Ocean Realm and the Tropical Rainforest. Get up-close views of ocean predators in the Shark Lagoon and marvel at the fantastic colors of the Coral Reef. Tour Stingray Bay and then touch stingrays in the interactive exhibit. Crawl through underwater tunnels at the indoor and outdoor Penguin Playhouse.

Combine your aquarium visit with a trip to the RainForest Adventures Discovery Zoo in nearby Sevierville. The RainForest Zoo shows hundreds of animals highlighting species from rainforests around the world.
