U.S. Mint Set to Release Quarter Featuring the Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Ray of sunlight shining down on the Smoky Mountains at dawnIn 2010, the United States Mint began issuing 56 quarters, each featuring designs of the national parks and other national sites. Since, we have been patiently waiting for the release of the Smoky Mountain quarter. The quarter will be the 21st out of the 56 quarters to be sent out.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park quarter is the first to be released in 2014. The official release of the coin is set for Wednesday, January 29.

Where will the official release be held?

The official release of these special quarters will take place at Mills Auditorium in Gatlinburg, beginning at 10 a.m.

What else is happening at the release event?

At the Gatlinburg event, there will be U.S. Mint activities, free quarters given to school kids, as well as collectors purchasing thousands of dollars worth of quarters. The area sponsor for the release in January will be Citizens National Bank.

The night before the release, Tuesday, January 28 from 5-6 p.m., the U.S. Mint will host a program at Sugarlands Visitor Center about the production of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park quarters. Anyone interested in collecting items of the Great Smoky Mountains will enjoy the Tuesday evening program. All families are welcome to be a part of the fun at Sugarlands Visitor Center that evening. If you’re looking to purchase various quarter collections, the Great Smoky Mountains Association website provides more information.
