Dolly Parton Wows at Summer Festival

Dolly Parton may be one of the greatest talents to ever come out of the Smoky Mountains, but she can entertain more than just mountain people. The multi-faceted entertainer recently played at a festival in England that wowed crowds and proved that, once again, there’s nobody like Dolly.

Parton performed at England’s Glastonbury Festival, one of the biggest summer events in southwest England. Local news source WBIR stated that she played her top hits to crowds with attendance nearing 150,000.

There were even surprises in store for the performer as her manager Danny Nozell and Glastonbury owner Michael Eavis presented her with a special plaque commemorating her achievement of 100 million album sales worldwide.

The traditionally muddy festival was mostly sunny, but Parton still wrote and performed a special song about mud for the festival. Other past performers at the festival include Jay-Z, James Brown and the Rolling Stones.

Dolly’s International Success

Parton is no stranger to international success. With more than 100 million records sold and nearly 50 Grammys, her clear soprano vocals and deep talent have gained fans from around the world.

Before her newest album Blue Smoke had been released in the U.S., it had already topped the charts at #1 in New Zealand and Australia. In the U.S., the album debuted at #6 with almost 40,000 sales.

Parton was last seen in Pigeon Forge for her annual homecoming parade in Pigeon Forge. Though she doesn’t have any more scheduled appearances, visitors to the Smokies can always catch sight of her at Dollywood.

The Pigeon Forge theme park features displays of the legend’s career, including Dolly’s closet where you’ll find some of her favorite fashions for guests of all ages. You can also tour a replica of the one-room mountain home that she shared with her parents and 11 brothers and sisters.
