If tessellation, duvet, counterpane and Broderie Perse move your needle, then I think I know where you need to be this March. Now, I have no idea what those words mean, but every spring in Pigeon Forge, there are a bunch of talented people who do.

Mountain Quiltfest will be held March 13-17 in Pigeon Forge. This
celebration of an ancient practice (the earliest known quilted garment is from
Egypt around 3,400 B.C.) brings together some of the most talented quilters in
the country. There are more than 60 classes and seminars taught by experts, a
quilt appraiser who can tell you how much your old quilt is worth, a dinner
social, show and tell, even an antique quilt bed turning (yep, it is what it
sounds like). Even better, you can bring your own quilt and see how it stacks
up to other quilters. The quilt show
will display work from across the country and in numerous categories with
prizes worth more than $20,000. And the best news is that the show is open to
professional or amateur quilters. Among the categories are: small professional,
quilted for hire large quilts, quilted for hire small quilts, hand quilted bed
quilts, machine quilted bed quilts, non-traditional quilts, large quilts,
medium quilts, small quilts, youth quilts and other.
This yearly tradition bringing together the needle
and thread crowd draws more than 20,000 people to Pigeon Forge. There are
events happening all over the city, so it’s best to find out where the activities are taking
place so you don’t miss anything. Head to the Smokies and see this unique
celebration of a timeless art.
