Island in Pigeon Forge Developers Announce Grand Opening

Vintage style photo of ferris wheel in blue skyThe wait is almost over. Earlier this week, developers for the Island in Pigeon Forge announced June 21 as the grand opening of the first phase for the attraction in Pigeon Forge. Promising to be a one-stop-shop for your family’s Smoky Mountain entertainment, the Island in Pigeon Forge will be home to many popular restaurants and retail shops including Timberwood Grill, Auntie Anne’s, Mellow Mushroom and The Island Trading Post.

The fun doesn’t stop there. the Island in Pigeon Forge will also house fun-filled attractions including a bungy dome, an arcade, a carousel, and most famously the Great Smoky Mountain Wheel.

The Wheel at the Island in Pigeon Forge is a 200-foot tall rotating observation deck. Constructed of 42 all-glass, climate-controlled gondolas that seat up to eight guests each, the wheel promises to bring riders breathtaking views of Pigeon Forge and the Great Smoky Mountains.

Before you leave, be sure to check out the Great Smoky Mountain Wheel at night. Both adults and kids will be in awe as the bright lights from the wheel’s light show dance across the night sky. The show can be seen from miles around, creating a truly unique experience during you and your family’s Smoky Mountain vacation this summer.

Formerly known as Belle Island Village, visitors and locals alike have highly anticipated the opening of the Island in Pigeon Forge since the development was first announced in late 2011. Stretches a total of 22 acres, The Island in Pigeon Forge is located at 130 and 131 Island Drive. Developers plan to begin construction on Phase 2 of the Island in Pigeon Forge later this year. All construction on the Island in Pigeon Forge is expected to be completed by spring 2014.

The wheel looks like the London Eye. Hope for good views when we get there. The London Eye lets you see all of London from all directions and it worth the ride. Hoping this will be the same.

The London Eye was one of my favorite experiences when I went to England a few years ago. I’m really excited to see Pigeon Forge offering a similar attraction to its visitors.
