The Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, TN may be most famous for its exhilarating roller coasters and thrill rides, but there is still plenty to do for young kids! The Family Vacation Critic website recently praised Dollywood as “good for little tykes” in its list of Electrifying Amusement Parks for 2017.
In their write-up for the park, the Family Vacation Critic noted that Dollywood is home to over a dozen rides that can be enjoyed by children who are under 3 feet tall. Dollywood also features numerous family-friendly shows that are great for the whole clan. Parents who are visiting with babies can take advantage of the park’s nursing stations, changing stations, baby care centers, bottle warmers, and strollers. The Family Vacation Critic also appreciated Dollywood’s “parent swap” policy, which allows one parent to take over a spot in line that was being held by another parent.
To help you prepare for your next vacation, Visit My Smokies has put together a guide to some of the best rides and shows at Dollywood for little children.
Dollywood’s old-fashioned steam engine is guaranteed to be a hit with your kids! Passengers on the Dollywood Express enjoy a fun 20-minute train ride through the foothills of the Smokies that is filled with gorgeous scenery. Your kids will love listening to the steam whistle and hearing the old-timey conductor call “all aboard”. The trains run throughout the day and there is no height requirement to ride the Dollywood Express.
The Little Engine Playhouse
The Little Engine Playhouse is a special theater just for Dollywood’s youngest guests. The Playhouse stages three 20-minute musical shows based on beloved children’s books, including The Little Engine That Could. All of the shows feature video cameos from Dolly Parton and original songs written by the Queen of Country herself!
Eagle Mountain Sanctuary
Dollywood is home to Eagle Mountain Sanctuary, a large aviary house that cares for non-releasable bald eagles and other birds of prey. Your kids will have a blast learning about all of the beautiful birds on display. The theme park also regularly hosts “Wings of America” shows, where the birds of prey soar through the air for everyone to see.
The Country Fair section of Dollywood is perfect for little kids. This area of the park offers a number of rides that don’t have a height requirement, including the Amazing Flying Elephants, Busy Bees, Lemon Twist, Lucky Ducky, Piggy Parade, and the Wonder Wheel. The Country Fair also features a great selection of carnival-style games that your whole family is sure to love.
