Opening Soon: 3 New Attractions at Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort

Since it opened in 1962, Ober Gatlinburg has been a favorite attraction of Sevier County residents and visitors alike. This is, in part, thanks to the ever changing nature of the attractions that are located at the resort. Coming this year are three changes that are sure to excite guests who are well versed with the resort as well as those who have yet to experience it for the first time.

Expanding the Slopes

Ober Gatlinburg is home to nine different ski slopes and a terrain park. These slopes range in difficulty from beginner to advanced. Ski school is also available to those who are looking to learn to ski. Ober Gatlinburg has announced the opening of a new slope for the first time since Mogul Run opened up in 1987. Coming in at 635 feet in length and 45 feet in width, the new Yeti’s Run ski slope will be completed in time for the 2014-205 ski season and will feature lights for night skiing and snowboarding. The slope will have an advanced difficulty rating as well.

This will be a year round adventure attraction that will feature a thrill ride with fantastic mountain views. The coaster will be approximately 4000 feet in length and time out at around 5 and a half minutes. This is another addition to the Ober Gatlinburg Amusement Park, which features attractions that are fit for the whole family. With construction underway currently, Mountain Coaster is on schedule for its spring 2015 opening.

See More Wildlife

One of the most popular experiences at Ober Gatlinburg is the wildlife encounter. Featuring black bears, river otters, a nocturnal house and birds of prey this experience is one that affords an opportunity for guests to come face to face with the Smokies furriest inhabitants. This year two bobcat kittens made their debuts at the Wildlife Encounter to the delight of guests. Currently construction is underway for a bobcat exhibit that will house the two Southern Bobcats. The bobcat kittens are available for viewing 12:30 – 4:00 pm daily.
