Country music star, Dolly Parton, and her longtime husband, Carl Dean, are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary!
In 2013, Dolly Parton announced plans to get married – again! At the time, the couple said they planned to hold the ceremony at their Tennessee home. Dolly has since said she plans to take lots of pictures with hopes to sell them and donate money to her non-profit organization, the Imagination Library.
Dolly and Carl met outside of a laundromat in Nashville, TN on the same day Dolly moved to the Music City. Two years later, the couple married secretly on May 30, 1966. They weren’t able to have a large wedding because they were forced to keep the marriage a secret from Dolly’s record label (the record label requested she wait at least a year to marry). They snuck off to Georgia (so the wedding announcement wouldn’t make it in any Tennessee newspapers) with the preacher, his wife and Avie Lee (Dolly’s mother).
They have been together for 52 years, and Dolly is excited to renew their vows together. We know the Dolly Parton anniversary celebration is going to be huge! She even says her wedding dress will be anything but Pure & Simple because she’s planning to have a large ceremony since she couldn’t 50 years ago.
Dolly’s wedding dress and Carl’s suit will be on display at the Chasing Rainbows Museum at Dollywood beginning on July 1, 2016.
We are sure the Dolly Parton anniversary celebration and vow renewal will be nothing short of beautiful, in true Dolly fashion.
After Dolly’s anniversary and vow renewal celebration, she will be on tour to promote her Pure & Simple album through the middle of August, and she’s making a stop in Pigeon Forge! Click here for details about the Dolly Parton tour date in Pigeon Forge.
