Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on September 2, 1940, "for the permanent enjoyment of the people." This park has now become the most visited national park in the country, with millions enjoying its splendor each and every year.
Numerous 75th anniversary events are scheduled in 2009 to celebrate the park’s past - over eight decades of hard work by thousands of Americans, personal sacrifice, and success in creating and preserving this national treasure.
Admission to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is free, as are the scheduled public celebrations. For more information, click here.
